This prestigious award recognises outstanding achievements in the field of public outreach by companies and the Dutch Wavemakers program have been nominated for 2019! The winner will be announced during the Offshore Energy Opening Gala Dinner & Awards Show on October 7th this year.
We are The Dutch Wavemakers and we create worldwide awareness regarding the effects of climate change and clean oceans in a friendly way. We reach the next generation from primary school to PHD.
Primary and secondary schools
We unleash worldwide the creativity of many children, teaching them to become changemakers for a better future. We work with children both from regular environments and children in disadvantaged situations in equal measure. During a Dutch Wavemaker water and energy lab, children learn about plastic soup, water quality and think about solutions to the SDGs, and in so doing contributing to and co-creating a better world with clean oceans.
University / Young Professionals
We use a new way of authentic learning and international networking for students and young professionals with a passion for water and clean oceans. The Challenges take place worldwide, usually during international water related events. In multidisciplinairy, international teams, the participants work on real life cases from companies and (governmental) organisations. Their challenge: to think out-of-the-box and develop realistic concepts.
During global events we develop, in collaboration with government , business and universities, an sustainable education programme to train athletes and students to become wavemakers abroad. Which means that when the event, for example The Ocean Race, is finished or has left the stopover, the programme will be continued by the local wavemakers with a focus on local water / pollution issues to maximise our impact.
The Dutch and international Wavemakers - are specially trained water sport talents and students who study water and energy-related topics at Dutch institutes for higher education.
Dutch Wavemakers is located in the Netherlands and works through a network of partners of the Triple Helix all connected to global water(sport) events.
